Music Magnate is a Gun

Apr 21, 2015

Woodside Park Stud resident stallion Written Tycoon looks to have produced another gun galloper in the Bjorn Baker trained Music Magnate.

The 3yo gelding was a strong winner on Saturday of the Hyland Race Colours Handicap over 1200 metres at Canterbury Park.

Music Magnate jumped nicely for champion hoop Hugh Bowman sitting just off the pace. On straightening Music Magnate balanced up and finished strongly defeating Inz’n’Out by 0.1 of a length with I am Zelady a further 2.4 lengths away in 3rd place.

Jockey Bowman was very impressed by Music Magnate’s victory.

“I think you have a nice horse on your hands”, said Bowman to connections on returning to the mounting yard.

“I think in time when he gets on bigger tracks he will measure up to better races”.

Trainer Baker who is a huge fan of Written Tycoon was also impressed with the victory.

“He’s always been a bit immature and we may well put him out now and bring him back and he’s only going to get better,” said Baker

“It’s hard enough to win a city maiden let alone progress to a Saturday race and if a horse can do that in their first preparation that tells you they are pretty good”.

Music Magnate took his record to 2 wins and 1 placing from 3 starts and $76,025 in prizemoney to date, a good return on his NZ$45,000 purchase price from the New Zealand Bloodstock Select Sale.

Music Magnate is the 2nd quality galloper to emerge from the Written Tycoon/Danehill Dancer cross which has already produced high class sprinter It is Written, a dual stakes winner of $543,723 in prizemoney.

Music Magnate is the 3rd foal of placed Danehill Dancer mare Concert Girl.

Concert Girl is a half-sister to stakes winners Marrok and Appeal Process and is also closely related to former high quality staying filly Chaleyer, a dual Group 1 winner and Group 1 placed in the AJC Oaks and Canterbury Guineas.
