Gerald Ryan admits Mrs Onassis could be making farewell appearance

Jul 11, 2013

TRAINER Gerald Ryan has confirmed Mrs Onassis could race for the last time in tomorrow's Listed Sir John Monash Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield before going to stud.

Ryan said owner Gerry Harvey was weighing up whether to retire his Group 1 winner in time for the breeding season.

"She'll run on Saturday and then perhaps in the Missile Stakes. She could have one or two runs left," Ryan said. "She's a five-year-old going on six, she's won a Group 1, so there's not much left to prove."

Mrs Onassis won the Oakleigh Plate in February, and Ryan said she was "spot on" for tomorrow's assignment at the same track.

Meanwhile, Ryan's Lasting Image turned it on for his trainer after dumping his jockey at Grafton yesterday and then jumping the outside fence. Lasting Image was having his last start for Ryan.
