Black-type beckons Medusa’s Miss

Randwick trainer Kevin Moses wasn’t getting too far ahead of himself after Medusa’s Miss won the Co-Wyn Building Group Hcp (1400m) as a heavily supported $2.60 favourite on Wednesday.

Medusa’s Miss (3f Henny Hughes – Cleopatra’s Girl by At Talaq) stepped up a furlong to capture her second race in a row at Warwick Farm this month.  She put a couple of lengths on her rivals in the straight before coasting home to score by a half-length.

“She was too strong for that field and I’m very happy with her progress,” Moses said.  “I think she will get further and win in stronger company but, for now, we will just take it in small steps.

Moses mixes the workload for Medusa’s Miss with regular trips to nearby Botany Bay.  He also indicated the filly might have a short break down with her owners at Cobbitty Lodge.

Medusa’s Miss is a valuable filly and Moses will endeavour to winsome black-type with her this season.  She’s a younger half-sister to Group 1 star Mummify and Eliza Park agent David O’Callaghan bought their dam Cleopatra’s Girl for $26,000 when she was carrying the Henny Hughes filly at the 2009 Inglis Easter broodmare sale.

Henny Hughes (Hennessy) shuttled to Australia before transferring permanently to Rangview Stud earlier this year.  He stands for a $7,700 (inc gst) fee at the Western Australian nursery.
